Leathercrafting for Passion | Le Gars

My Story: Baptiste Le Gars, Artisan Leatherworker

Every product you see here is handcut and handsewn by me, Baptiste Le Gars. I started Le Gars Leathercraft in 2020 during a long, isolated winter, seeking to stay busy and warm.

The Philosophy Behind My Creations

The things I create are simple, practical, and designed to last. I focus on durability, sustainability, and efficiency—every buckle is chosen for its ease of use, without any unnecessary embellishments.

A Commitment to Sustainability and Longevity

I refuse to contribute to the throw-away economy. My products come with a lifetime warranty and are made from the finest Horween leather, tanned with plants instead of harmful chemicals. I create pieces that you’ll only need to buy once, out of the highest quality Horween leather that’s been tanned using plants rather than heavy metals. They’re designed for all genders and ages because inclusivity matters to me.

Meet the Maker: "Le Gars"

The name "Le Gars" literally means "the dude," and I am that dude. My journey from France to leathercraft is filled with travel, love, and discovery.

My Journey from France to Leatherwork

In 2013 I left my native France and began to travel, moving through Europe and the Americas with a backpack and a beat-up tent. I’d been hitchhiking for three years when I met my now wife in the Colombian jungle, and for five years when I discovered leatherwork. In other words, travel has brought me all the loves of my life.

Reinventing Myself Through Creativity

I once worked a desk job I couldn’t stand. While traveling, I tried different things, from selling accessories made from skateboards to considering a career in ice cream making. But when I found leatherwork, I knew I had found my calling.

Montreal: My Home and Inspiration

Now I call Montreal home, a city where I’m constantly inspired by its vibrant community of makers. This is where my family and I have settled, and I feel lucky to be part of its thriving arts scene.

Thank You for Being Part of the Journey

Thank you for supporting me on this long and meaningful journey. I hope you find something in my collection that will accompany you as you create your own memories.
